Can’t Attend a Baby Shower?

I’ve had one baby shower and a “sprinkle” where I felt so held up by my friends and family, so it hurts my little heart to think that those plans for so many are thwarted.  I’m sure there are ways to do it at a distance.  We have group video chats, we can mail anything from anywhere, but the camaraderie and personal interactions that fill my memory of those parties are so sweet and would be sorely missed.

There is a great way that you can send your love to an expecting mom that will be a way to be present when we are all supposed to be distant.

My all time favorite thing about those first six weeks or so after the baby is born, besides the baby, is the diaper changes with personalized diapers.  The notes on them were encouraging, funny, or just reminders that I am loved and not alone.

Our friends and family knew we wanted to cloth diaper, but we also had a unique situation where we were living out of a hotel.  NOT conducive to cloth diapering.  So we would need disposable for the first two months.  Even after those first two months, we used disposables for sleep training.  I would suggest getting a package of 8-hr or 12-hr baby-dry diapers if you’re sending to a cloth-diapering family who may want to use disposables for nighttime or sleep training.

At my first baby shower, and later sprinkle with the twins, the guests used different colored sharpies and pulled a diaper from a package, wrote their note, and left them in a basket.  I can’t tell you how much these notes brought us joy when my husband and I would have to change a diaper.

  • You’ve got this!
  • You’re doing so great momma!
  • “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
  • It’s Daddy’s turn!
  • It’s Mommy’s turn!
  • Watch out – this one’s a stinker!
  • We love you so much!
  • “For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition that I made to him.” 1 Samuel 1:27
  • You guys are great parents!!
  • This diaper is not for individual sale
  • You’re doing so great daddy!
  • “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
  • Remember we are here for you!  Call us!!
  • You’re the perfect parents for this baby.
  • “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
  • It’s Puppy’s turn!
  • Call Grandma!!
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.” Psalm 127:3-4
  • “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
  • Good job, parents!  You’re doing it!!
  • We’re gonna need a bigger diaper.
  • If it’s number 1 – it’s mommy’s turn!  If it’s number 2 – it’s daddy’s turn!
  • If its’ number 1 – it’s daddy’s turn!  If it’s number 2 – it’s mommy’s turn!
  • Don’t worry, guys.  This is just for the first three years.  ; )

    1. Thanks! The thought came later that disinfecting the diapers may be a hang-up… would people accept diapers from another household, delivered via post these days? I think I still would… but maybe others wouldn’t?
