2024 Bible Reading Plan

December 30, 2023

Happy New Year! 2024 will begin and so will everyone’s plans to do something a bit differently in the hope it could make life a bit better. I’m testing out a Bible Reading Plan (linked below) that’s based on RC Sproul’s suggested reading list for a broad overview of the Bible. These 25 books are parsed out to match up with outlines from Charles Swindoll, Steven Armstrong, and the lovely people at ‘Spoken Gospel.’

Back in 2007, I remember it was the first time I was really confronted with the questions, “Is the Bible a reliable source? Can I believe the translation I have is accurate? Can I believe this is true?” These questions shook me, and it took me years to finally read the Bible again with trust. In 2016 my need for assurance in the authority of scripture grew with the birth of our first child, and I finally understood that I couldn’t rely on others to tell me what the Bible said. I had to know it, and then enjoy the benefits of insights from others who also knew it.

First I had to start by knowing what I didn’t know. When I could identify the gaps in my knowledge, I was able to know what I needed to study. I was no less “saved” when I was still learning to read, but the peace of the knowledge of truth only increased the joy of salvation. I spent a lot of time learning what was actually written in the Bible, the history surrounding the stories, and the hermeneutics (which aren’t as difficult nor expendable as they seem at first) and I still know I’ve only scratched the surface!
